Osun Speaker Condemns Attack On School Principal

The Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, has condemned the mob attack on principal, teachers and students of Baptist High School, Ejigbo, Osun, by Muslim youths. Salaam told newsmen on Wednesday in Osogbo that the attack was unnecessary and uncalled for.
Muslim youths had on Tuesday invaded the Baptist High School, Ejigbo, and beat up the Principal, Mr Layi Oguntola as well as some teachers and students.
It was alleged that the attackers, mobbed the principal because the school authorities stopped some Muslims pupils from wearing ‘hijab’.
The speaker, who described the incident as sad and unfortunate, said the crisis did not have anything to do with the school merger programme of the state government.
“The crisis at the Baptist high school was sad, but we thank God it has been resolved and normalcy has been restored to the school.
“The crisis does not have anything to do with the merger of public schools by the state government.
Najeem said the state government would not relent in its efforts to provide environment that is conducive to learning, adding that the school reclassification programme in the state was in the best interest of the citizenry.
