Osun Govt Establishes Comfort Stations

Public-ToiletsAS part of efforts to improve  the health status of citizens and sustain  its zero tolerance for open defecation, Osun State government has established comfort stations at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park and Orisunbare International market in Osogbo, the state capital.
While answering questions from newsmen recently, the state Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Professor Olubukola Oyawoye, said the step became necessary to make life more comfortable for the citizenry.
Professor Oyawoye hinted that the initiative was aimed at complementing the efforts of the wife of the governor, Alhaja Sherifat Aregbesola.
The commissioner said the comfort stations would soon be inaugurated by Alhaja  Aregbesola for public use, submitting that the ministry would engage the service of O-YES cadets for proper management of the facility.
Professor Oyawoye, who noted that the facility would give members of the public, including travellers access to toilets as well as bathrooms in strategic places in Osogbo, maintained that government would continue to promote healthy living among the citizenry.

While reiterating the commitment of the present administration to the promotion of sanitation, the commissioner urged residents to desist from all forms of unwholesome practices that could expose them to environmental degradation.

Speaking on the establishment of weather stations in four tertiary institutions in the state, the Osun State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation boss said the stations would go a long way in stimulating weather forecast in the state.
She hinted that the benefiting institutions included the state College of Education, Ila; the Federal Polytechnic, Ede; Bowen University, Iwo as well as Fountain University in Osogbo.
Professor Oyawoye maintained that the weather stations were established in the institutions for training and research.
Some of the residents, who included Mr Tunji Adebanjo and Mr Kunle Babalola, lauded the government for the initiatives, submitting that the stations would position the state for economic turnaround.
