The Director General, Economic Development and Partnership, office of the governor, Mr Charles Akinola, stated this during a visit to Atamora Pottery, Ikire, Osun state.
He disclosed that three Universities have shown interest in partnering with the state in the area of pottery, maintaining that such would fast track the government’s plan for the initiative.
The founder of the pottery, Mr Ibukunoluwa Ayoola, said with the government’s support, the initiative would reduce unemployment in the nation.
Ayoola who frowned at lack of equipment to train students in higher institutions, observed that over 450,000 students are graduating  every year without impact.
Ayoola, an  accountant  turned potter, stated that his aim was to turn the village to a resource centre where students all over the world would come to train.
He encouraged students with potential and interest in pottery to extend their learning beyond classrooms and visit Atamora village for practical learning of ceramic.

Leaders from the four communities after a meeting in Iree, the headquarter of Boripe North LCDA to discuss the take off of the new council area urged security agencies to beep their search on “few individuals who want to foment trouble over the development ”
In a joint statement released by the representative of the four communities signed by Prince Adebayo Adeleke from Iree and Chief Amos Idowu, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from Agba commended the state Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for the creation of the council.
The communities condemned and dissociated themselves from the position of some leaders who were reportedly protesting Iree as the headquarters of the new LCDA.
According to the statement, choosing Iree was a conscious and diligent decision of committee set up by government in consultation with traditional rulers, public office holders and community leaders to foster desired development and progress.
The statement read “ we all agreed and consciously chose Iree as the headquarter of the new council considering its population, land mast  and economic advantages for the rapid development of the area, we presented this position to the committee, others also presented their own but they found merit and justification in our proposal which informed the choice of  Iree by the government”.
“ Historically, Iree has been made a district office of old Ifelodun Local Government, It is therefore quite unfortunate that some leaders in the community are instigating disharmony by rejecting Iree as the administrative office of the new LCDA, that opposition to us is in bad faith, mischief and attempt to cause crisis among the peace loving people”.
“ We the representatives of the chiefs, community leaders, market men and women, political parties, religious organizations  in Iree, Ada, Ororuwo and Agba therefore commended the state government for the choice of Iree and called on the indigenes to provide necessary support for the take off of the new LCDA.”
“We cannot afford to derail the development of the new council we have been anticipating for years, we are urging the public to discountenance the said protest, it is never in the general interest of the people of Boripe North LCDA”.
The community leaders also appealed to the people to pay their tax and cooperate with the newly appointed Council Manager for the sooth running of the LCDA.

As the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has given indication that the Federal Government will soon extend to other solid minerals the backward integration policy on lime stone that transformed Nigeria from a net importer of cement to net exporter in less than 10 years, a geologist at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dr. Abraham A. Adepelumi has said that one single company exploring gold in the state netted N2.2 trillion in one year. Adepelumi, who spoke at the first New Telegraph Newspapers Economic Summit, in Lagos, on Thursday, stressed the need for immediate commencement of exploration of the over 44 solid mineral deposits in the country.

According to him, diversification of the economy into this very rich sector would hasten the rebound of the Nigerian economy which has been stressed by dwindling revenue from oil. Speaking on the topic: “Nigeria Beyond Oil: Opportunities in Solid Mineral Resources”, he said that Nigeria is endowed highly with several minerals that include coal, gold, tantalite, bitumen, galena, sphalerite.
“These minerals have transformed the economic landscape of some countries. These minerals have to be mined in order to contribute significantly to the economy. Nigeria has an enormous amount of solid minerals which can be harnessed for our economic well being.
These minerals have remained untapped over the years. “Nigeria is endowed with the solid mineral sector. We have well over 44 mineral types both on occurrence and deposit scales. Occurrence means you have discovered but not done further works to prove if it is economic or not. So, we have minerals at both scales in over 800 locations in the country.
There are still hundreds of places of these minerals that haven’t been discovered. Of the 44 types, at least 20 are of economic value.” Adepelumi added that the extensive exploration and evaluation of mineral deposits in Nigeria from the colonial time to date by the geological survey of the country, has revealed mineral deposits across the whole nation and has recently been compiled state by state in various researches conducted by experts He said the mineral wealth extraction would lead to job creation, production of raw materials and commodities for trade, and significant revenue for development, if well-managed.
He alluded to one Segilola Gold Limited, a gold exploration company with operational base in Osun State which exports over 620,000 ounces of gold annually which amounts to over N2.2 trillion turnovers as an indication of the amount of money which can accrue to the country from that sector.
Adepelumi added that bearing in mind the fact that gold and several solid minerals deposits abound around Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara and Osun axes, immediate exploration of these, coupled with useful rail line as means of transportation will return Nigeria to the good old days of a buoyant economy.

The government of Osun on Sunday described as uncalled for insinuations that the state would not pay salaries of its workers in March as a result of the N6million federal allocation that accrued to it for the month of February.
download (27)
The Government assured its workers that just as the Rauf Aregbesola administration had weathered the storm to pay salaries up to December, the government is executing with the support of all stakeholders, including the workers,  a well-mapped out strategy for ensuring that workers are not made to pay more price for the dwindling allocation than they have done.
A statement by the Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, signed by its Director, Semiu Okanlawon, explained that the considerably reduced FAAC allocation is no more news to the State.
The state received less than N150 million from October till date, due the repayment obligations for the Infrastructure Programs, it has been prosecuting. In spite of the heavy obligations,  Osun has paid more than N5billion in salaries between the same period.
FAAC is not only source of revenue to the State, and the commendable support  of workers has allowed us to stretch our reserves and other sources to pay workers on mutually agreed terms as well as fulfill our development promises to the majority of the people
“As at today, the process for the payment of January salaries is at the final stages. Osun workers will receive their Salaries from this week in preparation for Easter holidays.
The State’s today remains a major projects site employing thousands of our people in simultaneous the construction of major roads, models Schools and other infrastructure mostly to be completed before the end of the year. Osun is, therefore, fulfilling its obligations to the people and running the government. The State’s call all that care to come to visit Osun to see for themselves the moods in the state rather than pander to rumours, conjectures and lies.
The statement added that Osun, by virtue of its poor allocation, has never had the opportunity to ample resources that are commensurate with the humongous responsibilities of payment of salaries, payment of pensions and gratuities, and implementation of capital projects.
“But due to prudent management of resources, creative infrastructure financing, this government has been able to fulfill its obligations in all these critical areas of governance.
The fact remains that Osun, under Aregbesola did not have to wait for the day the state would get N6million as allocation before proffering solutions towards sustainable economic self-reliance.
“This is why Osun has reduced the cost of governance, moved aggressively to increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR),  sought to attract investments into the State through the provision of hitherto non-existent infrastructure and enabling environment and instituted performance-driven governance.
“It must be noted that all hands are on deck towards more convenient repayment schedule of existing loans as part of plans to free the state’s resources for critical needs of governance. This is in addition to the drive for internally generated revenues the performance of which is very encouraging,” the statement added.
The Bureau, therefore, called on some critics of the government who are capitalising on the last allocation to make unguarded statements noting that Osun’s resources could not have been better utilized than what the Aregbesola had done in the last five years.
“We are aware of those whose job it is to confuse unsuspecting members of the public through their mischievous statements. The question these self-appointed critics of the Aregbesola administration should be asked is: if they demand that further funds should not be released to this government, what has happened to all the loads of lies-laden petitions they had sent to the Federal Government?,” it added
Saying that the ordinary people of Osun recognize the people-oriented programs of the administration, the statement added, “We are consoled by the fact that the ordinary people -the focus of this administration- appreciate the enormous work this government has done.
“This government set out an an ambitious and radical agenda to reposition our people for productivity which entailed  prosecuting and funding a major human and Physical Infrastructure  Revamp. It has delivered 200km of rural roads in partnership with the World Bank. It delivered over 300Km of roads across all Local Governments, over 70 model schools across the state so far. It all delivered major Human Development  Programs that now places the State’s among those with the Highest Human Development Index in the Country.
“The global crisis of 2013 led to a reduction of 40% in receivables and the unilateral national minimum wages foisted on states increased expenditure by average of 70%. These unforeseen challenges slowed this government development agenda and has forced the government to restructure. We are prosecuting this course carefully.
“Our commitment to the delivery of development to the people remains non-negotiable. Osun will fulfil, by the Grace of God, it promises to the people. The current situation is akin to  squeezing water out of stone, difficult but not Impossible.”
