Osun Begins Enforcement of Signage Law

The  Executive Vice Chairman of Osun State Signage, Hoarding and Advertisement Agency, Mrs Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo yesterday said her agency has commenced the enforcement of the signage law in the state.

Addressing newsmen yesterday at the Correspondent Chapel of the NUJ in Osogbo, Mrs Gbadebo disclosed that removal and demand notices have been placed on most of the sign boards and billboards across the state.
She also disclosed that the removal notices placed on the signage might have been done because the owners might not have registered or paid annual dues or the erection not properly done.
The Agency declared its determination to sanction indiscriminate pasting, erection of sign post and directed the people to ensure that they contact the agency to avoid removal of such sign posts adding that the agency will henceforth step up its activities by removing unauthorized board adverts on the roads.
She noted that the agency is not out to witch-hunt anybody or organisation but to ensure environmental aesthetic, board standardization and enhance productivity.
Mrs Gbadebo added that the activities of the agency is backed by law stating that the agency has the right to sanction those who owned unauthorized boards or remove such out-rightly.
The CEO who insisted that there is nowhere in the world where people are not made to pay for erecting sign post.
She enjoined those concerned to approach the agency to facilitate payment to the appropriate covers.
Gbadebo warned the general public not to make payment to any staff of the agency as such collection is illegal and cannot be accounted for by the agency.
Soliciting the support of the citizens to the activities of the agency, Gbadebo disclosed that the agency allows installmental payment of the annual dues, as well as the need to patronize professional advertisers.
The signage dues according to her is determined by sizes or location as well as the level of industrial concerned involved with the signage.
