Osun Commissions N47 Million E-Library For College Of Health Ilesa
The desire of Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to ensure qualitative Health Care training in the State, a 47 million naira state of art E-library has been commissioned at the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa.
The commissioning which took place at the school playing ground on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 was the first of its kind in the history of the Institution as the students who were very enthusiastic about the completion of the ultra modern library trooped out in jubilation, dancing amidst musical lyrics to show their affable appreciation to the governor’s gesture.
In his keynote address, Governor Aregbesola who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr (Mrs) Temitope Ilori stated that the reasons for providing such libraries in the State Health institutions was to restore healthy living which was part of the cardinal point of his administration.
Ilori said, since the inception of the present administration, it has embarked upon free treatment of the people irrespective of their state of origin.
The Health Commissioner added that, apart from free treatment, free distribution of drugs and medical consumable to the people in the state and Local Government were also not taken with levity hand.
She further explained that, government decision on this, is as a result of surveys carried out on health facilities which revealed that most of these hospitals needed more manpower, upgrading and provision of adequate health equipment for optimum service delivery, adding that these would soon be commissioned for the use of good people of the state.
Ilori noted that, with this library in place, it is hope that the standard of training in this school would bring a competitive learning as the students will make best use of facilities which will include the quality of training in their health institutions and translate to availability of quality health worker in the state.
The Commissioner who said the library is being equipped with books, computers, internet accessibility among others enjoined the students to make judicial use of the facilities so as to complement the efforts of the state government at revamping the state education.
Ilori assured the students across the state that the government will continue to provide conducive learning environment in all health schools owned by the state government in a bid to improve health service in the state and development of their academic activities.
In his welcome address, the Director Health Planning, Research and Strategy, Ministry of Health, Dr Basiru Akintola corroborated with the state governor.
Akintola while commending Governor Aregbesola and the Commissioner for Health said the State Ministry of Health through Health System Development Project has contributed immensely to support the good effort of the present administration in the area of provision of health care services to the people of the state.
The Director said the prototype of the newly constructed library complex was also provided for the students of Nursing and Midwife, Osogbo and a block of male hostel which has been commissioned.
Akintola stressed that medical equipments were supplied to selected hospitals, while Dental and Laboratory equipments were supplied to state hospitals at Ilesa, Iwo, Ikirun among others.
Advising the students on the need for them to make judicious use of the facilities, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Dr Rafiu Kusamotu said it is important for them to take their studies very serious so as to be able to compete with their counterparts across the country.
Kusamotu charged them to always display the ethos of Omoluabi wherever they find themselves, saying this is what Aregbesola and the state are known for.
Some of the students who spoke with Bioreports expressed their profound gratitude to the governor and the state commissioner for Health for facilitating the construction of the ultra modern library, saying it would help in boosting their academic pursuit.
The students thereafter, promised to continue to give support for the government of Aregbesola at all time.
