Osun Gets Commendation For Repairing Federal Roads

The Controller, Federal Ministry of Works, in Osun State,  W.K. Atitebi, has praised the courage of the Osun State government for embarking on the re-construction work of some federal roads in the state.

The roads, according to him, include:  Gbongan-Akoda dual carriage /Trumpet Bridge, Osogbo-Ikirun-Ila-Odo-Kwara State Boundary road projects.

He gave the commendation when the  combined team of officials from the Special Projects Office (SPO), office of the Governor and State Ministry of Works led by Abiodun Ishola  paid him courtesy visit in his office in Osogbo.

Atitebi noted that the state government achieved the feat from its  limited resources, adding that it is sign of good leadership. Ishola stressed the desire of the state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, to have all roads in the state motorable, be it Federal, State or Local.

He however  solicited the maximum cooperation of the Federal Controller, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing on the two major projects for the successful implementation and completion.

Ishola maintained that it is the desire of the government to make life easier for, not only the people of the state, but the general populace plying the roads.

The state of Osun today has become a state of flourishing dreams because the masses of the people see Rauf Aregbesola as the rarest of the rare. They see him as a governor governing them with the wisdom of  saints, as a leader leading them beyond the red sea. They are headed  to the  promised haven of advancement and justice. Rauf Aregbesola naturally comes to you as a sheikh, but truly Aregbesola is a man of style. He has this confidence that always tells you that this man knows where he is going.  Aregbesola belongs in the circle of great men of courage and endurance, men that make impacts and create possibilities.

He carries on like a sportsman that has his eyes on the gold medal, he works like a businessman that has been given a target. He recognized that the mandate given him is sacred and he must deliver. Today, the state of Osun is one of the best run and economically managed  in terms of human and economic resources development in Nigeria, as tourism, agriculture, education and human development capacity have been his major targets in moving the state forward.  Osun has never witnessed such a supersonic  growth. The future and survival of Osun’s economy can never be fully realized without the eight years of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s administration.

It is a process that has to be fully completed. The people of Osun no doubt have come to trust this indefatigable leader, entrusting the future of their children into his hands  as the educational status of Osun has leaped forward  tremendously  ten years ahead of what any other government could have achieved. In just four years of Aregbesola’s government,  he  fast-racked the rather slow economic development pace of Osun state putting it on  the footpaths of great developed regions. Ogbeni has given Osun state a soft landing into the orbit of great states in Nigeria. Like an artist, he has advanced the state of Osun with  the upward stroke of his painting brush.

He has fought and won many battles to shame mercenaries and saboteurs who called themselves politicians in the state. Their war threats and agenda seem not able to stop him and  undeterred, he pursues his glorious agenda of developing Osun to  enviable heights. These funny politicians’ poisonous lies emanating from their poisonous gas chamber called party headquarters  were  never  enough to stop him. He set the people of the State of Osun  free, breaking the yoke of slavery the people have been subjected to in the past.  Before the arrival of Aregbesola, the nights have been so long for the State of Osun and it was like dredging out the heart of the Atlantic ocean into a waiting vessel already  sinking on the high seas.

The feet of good development  for too long dragged like a crawling kwashiorkor baby. Today, the endurance of the people of Osun have paid off after long nights of rituals and sacrifices of innocent blood and sweat when these mercenaries and saboteurs became blind and drunk with rum and spirit consumption becoming totally incapacitated to run the state according to the will and wishes of the people. The truth must be told, reality is what Nigerians need, not empty promises, we need to vote in the right people this time around again, because Aregbesola has brought governance closer to the ordinary people. He has no doubt, surpassed previous regimes in the area of infrastructure development as he works tirelessly for his people because their heartbeats mean a lot to him. His words can be trusted, he is approachable and reasonable. He’s dogged and came on board only to implement unprecedented transformational agendas like O’Tour, O’Yes, O’Meals, Opon imo etc. Osun has now become a state of peace with dividends of democracy flowing into her coffers.

Another joker of Ogbeni is the undiluted spirit of Omoluabi, cherished traditions and lifestyle, fresh and newly injected back into the system and day-to-day life of the people  as blocked steel tubes and rustic water injectors in the arts of governance and public administration are  witnessing a total overhaul and re-engineering, creating a new and widely accepted concept of Ipinle Omoluabi, kick-starting a new dawn of fresh ideas that rule a modern and civilized society in the State of Osun today. As tourism and cultural experts, tourism has become serious business in the state, as this sector is fast becoming a major revenue earner for the state. The tourism sector under the watchful eyes of Ogbeni has been boosted with the private sector greatly motivated, resulting in great changes in the hospitality and entertainment industry of the State of Osun. For instance, new hotels are springing up with the existing ones expanding, thereby creating job opportunities  for youths who are  tour guides and promoters of the arts. Ogbeni knew that any state that neglects  tourism would not attract global attention. Hence, the choice of  the State of Osun as the venue of so many national and international events in recent times.

With these great strides of Ogbeni, the State of Osun will soon become an attraction to great international investors. Haba, the State of Osun has never had it so good and  detractors in the state need nobody to tell them that it is a new dawn in the state. Even the blind could see the paragon of beauty the State of Osun has become lately. To cut the  long story short, “Half a word is enough for the wise”. The elders of our land would say, the continuity of this administration is what the people of Osun are clamoring for.  Victoria  Asata.

DSC_1800Ever since Osun was created, no administration has ever embarked on a radical road development plan like this present government. It is unique as within the space of 3 ½ years, the target of 1000km of roads has been achieved. A total of 915km including the 225km of local government roads cuts across the length and breadth of the state.
It has also been achieved a widespread distribution of road projects within the geographical spread of the state. it is to be noted that the last administration spent 7 ½ years in governing the state and it never came close to achieving the road development stride of the present administration which has spent 3 ½ years in governance.
Not only that, the quality of roads being built by Ogbeni Aregbesola’s administration is to last between 25-30 years. The last administration could not successfully execute its planned local government joint road project as it was bastardised by corruption and substandard jobs, but Aregbesola’s administration successfully executed similar jobs in less than four years of administration.
Likewise, the strategy employed in achieving this plan can be replicated and evolved into a master plan for road infrastructural development in other states and Nigeria in general. The innovative mechanism tagged ‘’Osun financial re-engineering’’ has allowed the state concurrently execute multiple strategic projects, a development that is unprecedented in Nigeria.  Financial re-engineering has allowed the state, to literarily, Build Now and Pay over time. For a number of the projects being implemented, the mechanism allows the State to leverage on its revenues projections in the mid term to spread payments over periods of 24-36 months.
This mechanism delivers the benefits of

  • Optimum Revenue leverage, as the State can execute projects in the present, but pay based on it projected revenue over a three-year period.
  • Early Return on Investments, as most projects will be delivered and start to render services, before repayment is completed.
  • Inflation Proof Cost, as the cost of commissioning and executing projects in the present, would be devoid of inflation costs of executing same project in the future.

The financial re-engineering mechanism being pioneered by the state of Osun is a novel means for Infrastructure Financing within the Nigerian public sector. This has won the state commendations like that of the Nigerian Infrastructure Bank PLC.
It should also be noted that Osun is the 34th on the Federal Account Allocation Table and as been able to achieve such road development target.
Osun Road Infrastructure development programme is centred on making the state the commercial hub of South West Nigeria. This entails;

  • Building and rehabilitating a total of 1000km of roads classified into Boundary, Intercity and Township Roads.
  • A total of  903km of the 1000kms of roads have been completed while some are nearing completion
  • A total of 225km of Local Government Roads ranging from 7km10km each in all the 30 Local Government Areas have been completed or nearing completion. This is not included in the 1000km target
  • Rural roads target is 500km
  • The road infrastructure accommodates two flyovers. One at Gbongan Junction Interchange and another at Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo interchange.
  • These flyovers are the first in the history of the state
  • The roads have three layers of laterite, stonebase, MC1 and asphalt  thickness ranging from 40mm-60mm
  • It features concrete and fortified drainages; a departure from block-made gutters
  • The roads are to last between 25 to 30 years
  • A completion of the last three (3) phases of the Osogbo East Bye Pass(Ring Road)
  • A super highway of 120km connecting Kwara-Osun-Ogun and connecting Lagos thus providing an alternative route from Ibadan-Sagamu-Lagos Expressway.
  • A deliberate attempt to connect Osun to all her border states being the only State in the South West sharing boundaries with five states namely Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Oyo States.
  • An influx of road contractors thus helping in creating jobs and stimulating the economy.

INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega

Former Chairman of the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) Comrade Mashood Erubami, has urged the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to break the circle of election impunity in the country using next Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti as a litmus test case.

Erubami, who is the President of the Nigeria Voters Assembly (VOTAS), said the outcome of both the Ekiti and the Osun August governorship elections would convince Nigerians and the world that the assurance given by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega that the 2015 general elections would be better than 2011 was not an empty promise.
“The credible conduct the June and August 2014 elections in Ekiti and Osun States respectively would provide the best litmus tests for what to expect in 2015.The quality of any credible election cannot be predicted by INEC alone unless it has perfected the art of making all stakeholders to fulfill their obligations in such election. INEC this time must make parties to follow its guidelines by enlightening their members, candidates and general public on issues pertaining to the coming elections.
“It is amazing that past assurance from INEC did not reflect in the outcome of successive elections after 2011 as minimum standards for free, fair and free from fear elections have not been upheld by INEC to make elections truly credible and legitimate. If actually it is true that INEC has benefited tremendously from the partnership and participation of election stakeholders, why do we still have failed election? The answer is that partnership and participation of stakeholders will not be enough unless the stakeholders fulfill their obligations in accordance with the law,” Erubami said.
While saying that if stakeholders’ partnership will result in achieving a better result in election management, INEC must act as strict monitor and enforcer of the electoral act and that in Ekiti and Osun states, people will not expect to hear from INEC the usual reasons which it adduced in Anambra to justify the discovered unexpected shortcomings in the elections taking place in the two states.
He said: “Whatever the outcomes from the elections, it would impact on INEC’s credibility and if it would assure Nigerians of its ability to conduct the 2015 elections, it must be without blemish.
Nigerians will want to see INEC showing its commitment to improving on its activities from the way it conducts the elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

The ancient town of Iwo was in a total jam-packed today as hundreds of thousands of the All Progressive Congress (APC) party faithful across Iwo, Olaoluwa and Ayedire Federal Constituency gathered to declare their support for Governor Aregbesola second term re-election in the August 9 gubernatorial poll in the State.
The mammoth crowd at the venue of the event according to people of the constituency really rattled opposition parties in the state as it was adjudged the heaviest crowds Iwo has ever witnessed in history, as vehicular activities were grounded for several hours.
Mr Rahamon Oluwole, who was selling T-Shirts and Caps very close to the Iwo City Stadium, the venue of the mega rally said he had never seen a crowd like that since he was born.
Oluwole who vowed to mobilized his family for Aregbesola during the forthcoming gubernatorial election said he had never seen development of any kind near what Governor Aregbesola has wrought in the State of Osun.
He therefore urged people of Iwo and Osun in general who really appreciates good governance to ensure the return of the governor for a second term so as to consolidate and complete all other projects he has started.
Corroborating Oluwole, Alhja Yidiat Azeez asserted that it is only the enemies of development that wouldn’t wish continuity for a performing governor as Aregbesola who has combined uncommon courage, accountability, consistency and actual development in the state.
Addressing the people of Iwo Federal Constituency, Governor of the State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola promised more dividends of democracy in the state if he is given the opportunity to paddle the canoe of the state for another four years.
Aregbesola who was excited by the large number of the people gathered at rally vowed to rehabilitate Iwo/Osogbo road when he emerges victorious in the forthcoming election.
The state helmsman however assured the people of Osun that he will create more job opportunity for the youths contrary to what the oppositions were peddling around that he would sack workers when he emerges.
While charging the people on the need for them to exercise their civic right comes August 9, Aregbesola said it is incumbent upon all electorate to cast their votes and stay back to defend their vote, adding it is by so doing that they could guarantee the sanctity of their votes.
Aregbesola said it is a must for every individual who had reached the voting age, to vote and defend his or her vote, saying that they should not be intimidated while defending their votes.
He added that, “It is very important to vote and defend that vote with all legal means. He explained that there are many way to defend their vote in a locally manner considered to be legal.
“Your vote is your rights. You must vote wisely. We must before the election certify that your names are on the voters list of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Do not allow anybody to lure you into relinquishes your voter’s cards for any reason. That is your license to choose who governs you.”
Aregbesola maintained that if the people wait behind at the polling station fully armed with legitimate weapons, nobody would dare unleashed terror on them or make attempt to rig the election.
The governor said: “You must not leave the polling station after voting but stay at reasonable distance that will not undermine the voting process. It is by that you can guarantee the security of your votes. Do not be afraid of them. Stay at the polling units and maintain peaceful conduct.”
Aregbesola also enlightened the electorate on the need to ensure that the election results at the polling units are written on the Form ECO8, saying that they should not accept result written on any paper except the official FORM EC08.
He added that any election result written on any paper is not valid; stating that it is assumed election does not take place where there is no Form EC08.
The governor also charged the people to record the voting activities at their areas with phones and other recording gadgets, saying no law forbids such act.

Iwo Rally – 4a

Iwo Rally - 4aGoing by the massive crowd of supporters that received Governor Rauf Aregbesola to the Iwo Federal Constituency on Tuesday, no governorship candidate would beat Aregbesola.

The Executive Secretary, Ayedire Local Government Council Area of the state, Mr Gbenga Ogunkanmi, stated this while speaking at the mega rally held at Iwo City Stadium.

Ogunkanmi said Aregbesola is not a candidate to beat in the August 9, 2014 governorship election, adding that with the massive supports from the people, Aregbesola’s second term is certain.

He commended the people of the constituency for trooping out to welcome Aregbesola at the rally, urging them to also vote massively for Aregbesola on the election.

“I commend the people of Ayedire, Iwo and Olaoluwa Local Government Council Areas for the warm reception they gave to Aregbesola at rally. The crowd was impressive and no one needed to tell us that Aregbesola enjoys maximum support and loyalty from Iwo Federal Constituency.

“From time immemorial, Iwo is ever progressive and we are proud to be progressives. The mammoth crowd at the rally is not surprising, because our loyalty and supports for Aregbesola’s re-election is undoubted.

“I will only urge our people to come out with full force as they did at the rally to vote for Aregbesola on election day. The electorate is our strength. We recognise them and we appreciate them. We urged them to continue supporting Aregbesola till and after winning the August 9 governorship election.”

Ogunkanmi attributed Aregbesola’s popularity and support from the people to what he described as numerous developmental projects and the transformation of the state.

The executive secretary stated that only a retrogressive and hypocrite would not appreciate Aregbesola’s achievements and efforts towards the development of the state. He maintained that no administration has ever touched the state positively like Aregbesola has done in just a term, saying that the governor deserves a second term.

According to him, the governor has fulfilled all his campaign promises and as well implemented all his six-point integral action plans. Ogunkanmi challenged the People Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties contesting for the governorship election to state their manifestos, if they have any.

Addressing members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and some community leaders from Ede and neighbouring communities at the palace of Timi of Ede, the Speaker said the appeal was necessary, following reports that some people are going about buying voters’ cards with the intent to use them to perpetrate electoral fraud.

Saying that the electorate should guard their cards and ensure that they vote massively for the ruling party on the day of the governorship poll, Sallam added: “I want to plead with you to guard your voter cards and don’t allow any desperate politicians to deceive you to sell it. Also ensure you guard your votes but do this without any form of violence.”

He said: “I want to plead with you to ensure that Aregbesola is reelected for the continuity of developmental projects in the state. He has performed absolutely well during his first term and I believe if you elect him again, he will perform more than before.”

Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, commended the state government for extending its developmental projects to the community, urging all stakeholders to shun violence during the election, warning that seeking power through illegal means would not serve the best interest of the people.
