Reactions in Ikirun -
Since her creation, the Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola’s passion to develop the state of the living spring is legendary and unequal.
His impressive performance as the Commissioner for works, during the era of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the governor of Lagos state was no doubt the elixir he needed to turn a state like Osun around and make it the envy among other states of the federation. More importantly was the avalanche of ideas and information at his disposal to make Osun great long before he assumed power.
Indeed, with the physical development across the nooks and crannies of the state, Osun State can be said to be fortunate to have someone that is fully prepared to transform the state and take it to a greater height as it manifests in the implementation of the six-point integral action plan of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Osun State in the past three years.
Of particular note is that, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola came into office with the determination to banish poverty, hunger and unemployment; restore a healthy living, promote functional education, and enhance communal peace and progress.
According to him, his commitment and determination is to make life worthy of living for the people of the State hence his introduction of programmes that touch the lives of every individual in the State.
Therefore, the unacceptable state of education in the State when the Aregbesola’s administration came into the saddle of governance informed the call for an education summit, attended by great educationists and intellectuals of all persuasions.
Professor Wole Soyinka made out time to personally attend the summit and made recommendation on which basis a complete overhaul of the education system of the state was done.
The most important conclusion of the summit was the restructuring of the system into three basic categories, Elementary, Middle and High schools. Primary 1–4 is the elementary school; 5–9 is the middle school, while grade 10–12 is the high school.
But for the effect of the change the new policy brought, it led to misunderstandings, and some have tried to mischaracterize the reforms as having a religious undertone.  Whereas, the major features of the new education reform that attracted criticism are: the introduction of a single school uniform to each of the three categories of schools throughout the state, the merger of single sex schools with mixed sex schools, the merger of Christian schools with Muslin schools and vice versa, the total wipe out of some schools, the use of hijab in “Christian schools” and perceived change in the names of schools.
Critics of these reforms particularly argued that the introduction of single uniform to schools is capable of causing indiscipline as it will be difficult for schools to identify their students. Old students of phased out schools were afraid of what might be their lot in case there is need for them to come to their Alma Mata for documentation or even the agony of having their history wiped out.
Also advocates of single sex schools felt that the sanity in the schools might be eroded apart from the loss of identity while some religious leaders argued that their schools should be made to retain their norms as stipulated in their religion, hence the resistance that no female Muslin should be allowed to wear hijab in Christian schools.
However, government has argued for its actions and made remedies where necessary. For example, the fear of loss of names of the schools is no longer there as government has ensured that the schools maintained their names with little modifications, hence we have Salvation Army Primary School, Alekuwodo Oshogbo changed to Salvation Army Middle School, Alekuwodo, Oshogbo, Baptist Primary School, Ilare, Ile-Ife is now Baptist Elementary Primary School, Ilare, Ile-Ife.
On the issue of single uniform for the three classes of schools, government wants parents to enjoy cheap procurement of school uniforms and further assisted by distributing school uniforms free to all students across the state.
To solve the issue of identity, government has disclosed the plan to produce badges for each school and smart cards for each student of public schools in the state for easy documentation and identification as it is being practiced in some countries like Brazil, Malaysia Ghana, Benin Republic etc.
The most pronounced problem that greeted the reform is the allegation of trying to Islamize the State by government by encouraging the use of hijab in Christian schools.
Meanwhile government has consistently debunked the allegation insisting that hijab was never part of the uniform distributed to students more so that the matter is already in court for adjudication.
Besides, Government has been emphatic on the fact that all public schools belong to government and that it is out of its magnanimity that whatever is left of any religion in schools are allowed.
Recently, at the commissioning of school buildings at the Baptist Elementary Primary School, Ilare, Ile-Ife on 18th February, 2014, Governor Aregbesola charged the people of the state to support the new education policy of his administration, which he said was for the good of both the children and the parents.
Aregbesola in his speech at the commissioning ceremony which had the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade and other dignitaries in attendance said the new policy of the state government on education has no religious sentiment.
He warned the critics of his administration and the education policy in particular to exercise patience till the policy begins to produce good results, which he said would be beneficial to all and sundry in the state.
He stated that the hallmark of the new education policy in the state was the enhancement of better welfare for both the teachers and students of all public schools in the state. He also said that the government was being motivated by the ideal of development of young individuals in the state; hence the huge amount of money committed into the education sector.
Aregbesola who has consistently insisted that the philosophy of his education policy is the development of a new man intellectually, socially and morally maintained that the educational reform policy of his administration would achieve the desired objective in due course.
According to him, Government has the plan to build 20 new high schools, 50 middle schools and 100 elementary schools. Each of these schools will be equipped to state-of–the-art standards, especially with digital learning aids, electronic boards, functional and contemporary laboratory equipment, sports facilities, clean water and large power generators.
True to his words, the elementary school commissioned by the Governor at Ile-Ife apart from being unique in outlook, has facilities known to be peculiar to private schools such as recreation, sports, laboratory and library facilities all duly equipped.
The only way to provide these facilities at affordable costs is to make the maximum use of the available resources at the disposal of government, hence the need to merge small, poorly equipped schools, into larger schools where all the facilities can be provided to large numbers of students using economies of scale to maximum advantage.
It need to be emphasized here that Osun State Government has committed the larger part of its financial resource to education with the free launch provided to class 1-4 on a daily basis that costs N 3.6billion annually, provision of free uniform to students across the state with N900Million, the N1.2 Billion spent on the provision of tablet of knowledge, N14.8 billion expended on construction of school buildings under its O’ School programme.
Besides, government has recruited no fewer than 10,407 teachers to public schools
Won’t you rather allow the good works in the education sector continue? Asks Remi Odewale

WORKERS

WORKERS

If what comes to your mind when you hear the words “13th month” is wether Osun will be introducing 13 Calendar Month against the traditional 12 Calendar Month, then your guess is as good as mine. But alas l was wrong.

As part of his sincere passion for the people of Osun, the introduction of unprecedented workers welfare package tagged “13th month Salary” is one of the major reasons why Osun Civil Servants are better off than their counterparts in most of the other states of the federation.

This, aside the usual annual leave bonus workers are entitled to and whose payment has been more regular and more coordinated than before, the Welfare Package has been another reason why Osun workers will always be ready to return Ogbeni to office till 2018.

The 13th month salary, as it is fondly called, simply means a Double Salary Package whereby workers in the state of Osun, in addition to the traditional leave bonus, receive 100% of their monthly salary within the same festive month of December aimed at boosting workers spending capacity in order to relief them of the burden of the needy season of Xmas and New year celebration.

Unlike before when most of the workers leaved in penury throughout the month of January as a result of impromptu spending during Xmas and new Year Celebration, the 13th month salary was introduced to augment the over spending during the festive period thereby increasing their living standard throughout the month and this consequently eases their living throughout the year.

This, indeed, is unprecedented in the history of the State. Lagos state Government remains the only state of its kind throughout the federation.

No wonder Civil Servants keep on declaring their unalloyed support for the people’s Governor, and are always ready to reciprocate the kind gesture by voting in the man who makes their welfarism a priority.

Although it is more than obviously glaring that the PDP led federal government is deliberately starving Osun State with federal allocation so that Salary payment and other obligations could become difficult for this administration to meet up with yet Aregbesola has disappointed the PDP led Federal Government by making Workers Welfare his priority.

It is therefore my candid advice for those bought-over workers to review with objective mindset how could someone who cherished workers at the inception of his administration could suddenly choose to turn his back against the workers at this crucial time he needs them most?

One could rightly conclude that the artificial famine in the allocation is a deliberate method by the PDP led Federal Government to torment workers for declaring their support for Aregbesola second term bid.

This has been a deliberate and dubious effort of PDP led Federal Government to frustrate Aregbesola’s Administration and incite workers against people’s governor aimed at creating impression that Aregbesola’s Administration that initiated 13th month Salary welfare package, who increased Car and Housing Loan Scheme from 200,000 and 300,000 to 400,000 and 500,000 respectively , is not Worker’s friendly.

Workers should, therefore, hold the PDP led Federal Government responsible for somewhat delay in salary since about 6 months ago.

Workers should not be cheaply bought over by this PDP antics and embrace the man, Aregbesola that will do everything possible to improve their well being.

As August 9, the day that will determine the future of this state of ours is around the corner, I urge the workers who have been deceived by PDP antics to have an objective rethink, find out the real brain behind the delay in their Salary and join hands with other teeming workers who are committed to returning Aregbesola to Office till 2018.

Let’s all embrace and support the man who have sincere intention to bring Osun State to a greater height.

Let’s embrace the man who is full of Creativity and Initiatives

Let’s all support the man who has made Osun proud in the face of the world

Let’s all embrace the man who have proved to us that our meager resources can also bring about numerous developmental Project.

Let’s all support the man who have set the pace to our promised land so that by 9th-10th of August, 2014, we shall all, by the GRACE of God, congratulate ourselves for returning the Trailblazer into Office.

Gbangbadekun @ Ijebujesa-3

Gbangbadekun @ Ijebujesa-3The Governor of the State of Osun Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Thursday evening said the plot of the Federal government to cripple his administration before the August 9 election in the state through the statutory monthly allocation will fail.

The governor while answering questions during the 8th edition of “Gbangbadekun” a state government public interactive feedback programme in Ijebu-Jesa Oriade North Federal Constituency, said, aside from the drastic drop in the allocation, plans are underway to stop it temporarily to the state.

He accused the federal government of Nigeria of a deliberate attempt to weaken the federating units especially the states where the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) is ruling, by ways of not making funds available to them for political reasons.

Aregbesola held that, despite the falling allocation , his administration will continue to pay the workers regularly.

According to him, “federal government aside from the drop in the allocation has devised a means to cripple our government before the August election by not giving us the statutory monthly allocation.

“Though the allocation aside from the drop has not been coming on time, the allocation for the Month of May only came yesterday, even before it came we have paid the May salary of our workers.

“Let me tell you that their are plans by the Federal government not to release the allocation of the coming months before the election so as to cripple our government, thinking that we will not be able to pay workers salary. I want to tell you that they have failed because we will device means of paying our workers”. The governor told the crowd.

‎He assured the people of the State of Osun that his administration will never sack any worker despite the falling allocation from the federation account.

According to him “my pact with God and the people of the state of Osun is not to sack any worker, if we can retain the glaring enemy, why are we going to sack workers who never offend us or neglect their job. Those peddling such rumour are ignorant or mischievous”.

The programme was attended by over 60 traditional rulers in Ijesa North Traditional Council.

Aregbesola said but for his administration’s final ingenuity,  the state would have experienced what many other states of the federation are experiencing in forms of salary cuts, three to four months delay in salaries.

The governor said it was gratifying that opposition candidates have not found it possible to accuse his government of not deliverying on life changing programmes noting that all they could do is to attempt to discredit the various achievements.

“But the good people of Osun have seen through the various lies they carry about. Our style of governance cannot be compared with any other in Nigeria. We have demonstrated it’s possible to make a modern state of our own territory.

On the four state owned tertiary institutions striking lecturers, the governor said as a government, his administration has offered the best to the workers saying the state lacked the financial capacity of the close to N90 billion pension fund they are requesting for and urged the stakeholders in the state to appeal to the lecturers in the general interest of the people.

The governor also assured the people of Ipetu-Ijesa that the Osun State University Education College in Ipetu will not only remain but equally upgraded to  an aviation school contrary to the relocation rumour.

He assured the people of Imesi Ile, Esa Oke, Ira of the completion of their roads and building of new elementary, middle and high school in their various communities.

The royal fathers who pledged their support for the governor on behalf of their community while speaking at the programme include the Akeji of Ikeji-Ile, Olura of Ira Ikeji, Oba Julius Olukayode, and Oba Felix Taiwo Aribisala, the Elekuruu of Ijebu- Ijesa represented by Odofin of Ijebu Ijesa, High Chief Olutola.

The Owamiran of Esa- Oke Oba Akanbi Adediran said Osun election will never be like that of Ekiti, “we are grateful people, we are strongly behind the governor, and I urge the people to also replicate the good gesture of the governor by voting him in August 9.

The monarch also expressed concern over the low pace at which the contractor handling the Otan-Ile, Esa-Oke to Ijebu -Jesa and urged the governor to liaise with the contractor on how to fast track the road project.

Suleiman-Bisalla-300×224

Suleiman-Bisalla-300x224Governor Rauf Aregbesola has described the death of a management staff of New Telegraph, Mr Suleiman Bisalla, as depressing, miserable and sad piece of news.

Mr Bisalla was among the 21 people who died at the popular EMAB plaza, Abuja, following a bomb blast yesterday.

In a statement by the director, bureau of communications and strategy, Office of the Governor, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola described the untimely death of Mr Bisalla as one that has once again robbed the media industry and the country of a young, energetic man and a fine journalist.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives yesterday observed a minute silence in honour of victims of the terrorist bombing which rocked a parking lot at a crowded plaza in Abuja, killing 21 people and injuring 52 others.

Lawmakers also condemned the recent terror attacks in several villages in Kaduna and Mubi in Adamawa State.

The House called on the federal government to immortalize the former director general of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and former minister of information, Prof. Dora Akunyili, by naming the NAFDAC Headquarters after her.

It also urged the federal government to immortalize the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, who died on June 6, 2014.

The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, has appealed to citizens and residents of the town to give maximum support on the second term bid of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The monarch, who spoke at an event held at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park where the community honoured Governor Aregbesola with the title of Aare Akinrogun of Osogboland, said the gesture was in recognition of the sterling performance of Aregbesola. Ataoja, who showered encomium on the governor at the programme put together by members of Osogbo community and environs to appreciate and officially endorse the governor for a second-term in office.

The monarch pointed out that the town has never had it so good since it was made the state capital, stressing that the touch of Aregbesola is very visible in every part of the town hence the need for Osogbo to ask him to continue the good work he has started.

According to him, “We are so happy and grateful to Aregbesola for the wonderful work he is doing in Osogbo and the state at large, our town is now wearing the look of a true state capital.

“Osogbo has benefited so much from the various life changing policies of this administration and we shall forever be grateful to Aregbesola who has made us to be proud of our town because the town is on a steady progress ever since he assumed office as the governor of the state.

bus12

bus12The Director General, Ogbeni Aregbesola Door-to Door Campaign Organisation (OD2D), Mr Segun Omoworare, has urged the people of the state not to believe the rumour being spread around by the opposition parties that Governor Rauf Aregbesola would ban commercial motorcyclists known as Okada and the intercity commercial buses called ‘Korope’  operators during his second term.

Omoworare averred that Aregbesola, who has been enjoying the supports of the commercial motorcyclists and the mini-bus drivers would never place a ban on their businesses, saying that doing such would resort to improvising poverty and hunger in the state, which the governor has successfully reduced to the barest minimum with series of empowerment programmes in the state.According to Omoworare, the opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was the architect of the false information on the Okada and Korope ban with a deliberate attempt to incite the people against Aregbesola and soil his popularity.
The Ile-Ife born politician stated this on Tuesday at the mega rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the re-election of Governor Aregbesola, held in Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency.
Omoworare maintained that the opposition parties are jittery of the supports of the people for Aregbesola and the governor’s popularity, hence they resorted to telling lies and misinforming the general public what does not exist to discredit Aregbesola.
“Aregbesola would not put burden on the people of the state and would not ban the Okada and Korope operators, being the only commercial transportation system in the state. He said: “Okada riders are major supporters of Aregbesola, likewise the Korope drivers. We will never forget their contributions during the struggle to reclaim Aregbesola’s mandate between 2007 and 2010. We will never forget the victimization they went through in the hands of the PDP government, simply because they stood behind the truth; Aregbesola’s mandate.
“Aregbesola is not an ingrate. It is only an ingrate that will not appreciate the support of the Okada riders and the Korope drivers. Aregbesola will not repay their supports and loyalty with hardship or any unpopular policy. The governor will not ban the operations of the Okada riders and the Korope drivers.
“The information is not true; it is a lie and political gunshot fired by the opposition parties led by the rattled PDP. How would a governor that is trying so hard to banish poverty and hunger place a ban on the Okada and Korope operations in the state? We know those are the means of survival for a sizeable population of the state, so the governor cannot stop their operations.
“I urge the people not to believe the false information and continue to repose confidence in the administration of Ogbeni Aregbesola. They are the ones that elected Aregbesola and they fought the battled to reclaim his mandate with him. We appreciate their support so far and we promise more dividends of democracy for them. “The Okada riders, the Korope drivers, the informal workers, the civil servants and other people of the state should please verify any information concerning the present administration from reliable individual, so that they would not be misled by the politicians, who had terrorized the state for seven and half years.”
Omoworare pleaded with the people to re-elect Aregbesola for second term, promising that his second term would be more beneficial to the people and the development of the state than the first term.

Before the inauguration of the present administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the State of Osun, he undoubtedly came up with a popular six-point integral action plan; banish poverty, banish hunger, banish unemployment (create work/wealth), restore healthy living, promote functional education and to enhance communal peace and progress, which the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and other government agencies keyed into, and according to the commissioner, Mrs. Mofolake Adetoun Adegboyega, “all these centered on women, and are issues that concern women very much”. This administration in its effort to forestall events and restore confidence to the people of the state in promoting functional plan and programmes to the longing and aspirations of the people in the state, brought about caring attitude of the Ogbeni’s developmental plans. In conformity with four of the six-point integral action plan of the present administration, the ministry rehabilitated children in conflict with law, who have constituted nuisance to the society and threatens the peace of the land by empowering them with vocations that would make them to be self-reliant and dependent. Fund was released for the establishment of vocational centre by Aregbesola’s administration. First phase of the vocational training unit had been completed, it comprises of snailry, (already stocked with snails), equipment was also purchased for tailoring and shoe-making materials.
