Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has stated that he was a product of the people of Osun State, enthusing that “they will still return me for a second term in office to continue our administration’s good work.”
Aregbesola, while speaking with Daily Sun in Osogbo at the weekend said with confidence said, “the people, who produced me to serve them will not desert me on Saturday, August 9,” adding: “They elected me to do what I am doing now and will want me to continue.” Speaking further, the Ilesha-born APC candidate, in retrospective, took a critical look at his performance over three years in office and declared authoritatively that, “there is no household in this community that our programmes have not affected positively.”
Citing an example, the governor mentioned free feeding of primary school pupils, saying “it is one of our programmes that do not discriminate, whether you are Muslim, Christian, pagan, APC, PDP and SDP to mention but just a few.” He reminded that his administration had a periodic programme tagged “walk for life,” saying, it was one of the avenue for a servant to test his acceptability and popularity amongst the people. Aregbesola explained that a lot of people partook in the exercise, with the sole aim to interact with their governor.
He added that the way they trooped out to be with their elected governor was an indication that they still loved him and would continue to love him. Against this backdrop, Aregbesola said he never dreamt that what happened in Ekiti State on June 21 would ever happen in Osun State, exuding confidence that, “by the grace of God, we will win and win well.

Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has stated that he was a product of the people of Osun State, enthusing that “they will still return me for a second term in office to continue our administration’s good work.”
Speaking with Daily Sun in Osogbo at the weekend, Aregbesola, who was exuding confidence, informed that, “the people, who produced me to serve them will not desert me on Saturday, August 9,” adding: “They elected me to do what I am doing now and will want me to continue.”
Speaking further, the Ilesha-born APC candidate, in retrospective, took a critical look at his performance over three years in office and declared authoritatively that, “there is no household in this community that our programmes have not affected positively.”
Citing an example, the governor mentioned free feeding of primary schoolpupils, saying “it is one of our programmes that do not discriminate, whether you are Muslim, Christian, pagan, APC, PDP and SDP to mention but just a few.”
He reminded that his administration had a periodic programme tagged “walk for life,” saying, it was one of the avenue for a servant to test his acceptability and popularity amongst the people.
Aregbesola explained that a lot of people partook in the exercise, with the sole aim to interact with their governor. He added that the way they trooped out to be with their elected governor was an indication that they still loved him and would continue to love him.
Against this backdrop, Aregbesola said he never dreamt that what happened in Ekiti State on June 21 would ever happen in Osun State, exuding confidence that, “by the grace of God, we will win and win well.”
Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described the alleged refusal of the Federal Government to release a short security call code to the state as dangerous and unfortunate.
Aregbesola told journalists in Oshogbo at the weekend that the state had constructed an Emergency Security Centre, where calls could be directed for assistance and rescue operations in case of any emergency, saying what remained for the centre to function was a short security code approval from the Federal Government.
The governor, who said his efforts to obtain the code were futile, suspected that the Federal Government was not well disposed to the release of the vital code.
He stated that a letter to that effect was first forwarded to the Presidency and when there was no acknowledgement, he wrote a reminder which, he said, was also ignored.
The governor disclosed that with the code, a helicopter could touch down anywhere in the state within 15 minutes to identify crisis spots with a view to mobilising security personnel to the spot.
Warning against politicising every issue, Aregbesola asserted that, “security threat does not discriminate,” adding that once anybody won an election, such person automatically became the leader of the electorate.
He pointed out that if the security centre had been functional, the young journalists who died recently along Ife Road could have survived the accident if help had reached them in time.
The governor, therefore, urged well-meaning Nigerians to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to use his good offices to effect the issuance of the code.
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has challenged his archival in the August 9 governorship election in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to an open debate.
Aregbesola, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said none of the governorship candidates in the state could match him.
The governor, who spoke at the commissioning of Aiyegbaju International Market, Osogbo, said he possesed an intimidating credential, which none of his opponents could beat.
Besides, the governor challenged the governorship candidates of Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and Segun Akinwusi respectively, to make their manifestoes open to the masses.
Aregbesola said the PDP had no basis to campaign, insisting that the party abused its opportunity when it was in power for seven and a half years.
He said the PDP governorship candidate would fail as his party did not execute any meaningful project while in control of the state’s resources.
The APC flagbearer said none of the projects embarked upon by the PDP administration could stand the test of time.
His words: “Let us meet at an open debate and they will be disgraced out. Give us just one hour and see who among us will have the day.”
Aregbesola assured that he would turn Osogbo to the centre of commerce and industry in the South-West, saying the town was gradually assuming the real status of a state capital.
The Acting Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of the state’s Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Dayo Oyebanji, made this known to newsmen in Osogbo over the weekend.
He decried the attitude of the affected establishments over the development, describing the situation as ‘unfortunate’.
He said the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, has a liability of over N1.7bn, while OAUTHC, Ile-Ife, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Immigration Service, State Security Service, the Customs, Prisons Service and others have liabilities to the tune of over N2bn.
Oyebanji added that some telecommunication companies that were distrained in past over non-payment of dues, had started making payments according to agreed terms and conditions.
“The attitude of the Federal Government towards the unprecedented infrastructural development in the nooks and crannies of the state, which is enough to serve as stimulus for federal government to respond to their statutory duty in the aspect of remittance of their outstanding tax liabilities in their various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, is unfortunate.
“The fact is that Federal Government-owned higher institutions in the state, as a result of multiplier effects of Aregbesola’s Six Integral Action Plan, have become cynosure of all eyes across the country.
“Most of the federal tertiary institutions have benefited immensely from the improved development in terms of good and motorable roads in all the nooks and crannies of the state, coupled with the peace and tranquility which has attracted high influx of students’ enrolment in federal higher institutions within the state, this has induced Federal Government’s revenue generation through school fees, and paved way for its economic viability,” herevealed.
Oyebanji, however, admonished federal ministries, departments and agencies to clear all outstanding liabilities towards the state government, saying the agency would not hesitate to drag them before the court of law.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to play less politics with issues that bother on genuine service to the citizenry as he alleged that the president refused to approve the take-off of state Emergency Call Centre and free farm product and good rail services, which his administration had initiated, to turn Osun State to a hub of development in Nigeria.
The governor stated this on Sunday, in Osogbo, at an interactive session with newsmen at the Government House.
He said that despite his efforts in meeting with the president and intimating him with the two ideas and writing official letters to that effect, “they did not acknowledge the letter to give us what we want.”
“Look today, we are the only government in Nigeria apart from Lagos that has emergency call centre, which has been made dysfunctional because the Federal Government just refused to give us code to activate the short emergency centre which has been ready for more than 13 months ago,” he said.
According to the governor, the centre, which was put in place for the state by the Nigerian Air force, will have enable the government to respond to cases of emergency, even in the remotest part of Osun State, had the Federal Government allowed it use 123 Emergency Code.
“If that emergency call centre had been activated, we acquired a helicopter that will get to the farthest part of the state in 15 minutes to attend to any emergency. That is why we acquired the helicopter, but because we didn’t activate the call centre, it won’t cost the Federal Government a kobo, it is just to direct the National Communications Commission (NCC) to allow us use their 123 Emergency Line,” he said.
“I wrote the president, he didn’t do it. Emergency does not know party, it does not know tribe or ethnic group, anybody could be in emergency in this state. We don’t want needless death. The president said this is good, he didn’t acknowledge the letter,” he said.
This is as the governor pointed out that the some journalists, who were coming from Abuja sometime ago after a programme of their Union, would have been rescued on Ikire road, were the call centre activated as he desired.
“The centre is there, go and look at it, it is state of art facility, when it comes to Aregbesola’s project, they couldn’t do anything to assist,” he stated.
Speaking on the rail project, Aregbesola lamented that the project, which he initiated six months into his administration also suffered similar fate because President Jonathan turned his back at it by refusing approval of use of existing rail line from Osun State to Lagos State.
“By the time I was six months in power, I got a deal from a Chinese company to give me five locomotives, five rolling stocks, without paying a kobo. You know I have this programme then of transporting goods, farm produce free of charge from here to Lagos, it is still there, then bring finished products from Lagos to Osun, so as to turn this place to a hub for people to come here and pick their things since it will reduce the cost of transportation. I took a letter to Abuja, saw him and gave him the letter and he didn’t acknowledge it.
The governor said it pained him to see projects that would stand to the benefit of the masses being sacrificed on the altar of politics and, therefore, urged President Jonathan to comply with the oath of office he swore to, by seeing himself president of Nigeria and not for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only.
TRIBUNE
Contrary to persistent claims by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Iyiola Omisore who alleged that Osun’s government under Governor Rauf Aregbesola is indebted to the tune of over N350bn, the Debt Management Office (DMO), in Abuja has said Osun’s debt profile is a very sustainable one which is healthy for its economic growth.
Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, who is the Director General of the DMO in the Presidency disclosed that the state is one of the best states in the federation with public debt management, describing the claims to heavy debt burden in Osun as mere propaganda and hoax.
Fielding questions from newsmen at MicCom Golf Hotel and Resorts, Ada, Osun State during a three day retreat for members of the House Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management, Dr. Nwankwo declared that Osun State status is very sustainable.
A former Head of Service under the Aregbesola administration, Elder Segun Akinwusi, had equally built and sustained his campaign for the governorship seat on the claim that Osun government owes over N350bn.
The state government had severally told the world that only those ignorant of operations of the financial world would agree that a bank can give a state or individual loans more that its capacity to pay both interest and the principal.
Nwankwo who did not give figure on the actual debt figure of the state explained that the state needed to be encouraged in term of management of debt because it has not borrowed beyond its capacity.
The DMO boss said that Osun State is one of the states in the federation with good and stable public debt management adding that his office recognizes Osun State as the first state to take Sukuk and “by our plan to encourage the issuance of Sukuk in Nigeria because, we need to diversify the instrument in the bond market.
“We want to make sure that all segments of the society is captured in the bond market because there are some groups of people or individuals who do not want to participate in ordinary bond because of interest.
“Our office, DMO and others are working hard to introduce Sukuk in Nigeria. We are delighted that Osun took the initiative and helped in introducing it in Nigeria. So, by that, Osun is one of the best states in public debt management.”
He also stated that the nation’s debt GDP ratio has fallen from 22% to 13%.
He added that “our debt is sustainable because GDP is much lower now. However, in spite of that, government will continue to be very prudent, conservative in its spending.”
According to him, “From my submission, I told the lawmakers that the GDP ratio is about 12% and this includes both external and domestic debt for both the federal and state governments.
“I emphasised in my discussion with the House of Representatives Committee on Aids, Loan and Debt Management that focus should be on having more revenue to service debt and therefore even based of debasing of Nigeria GDP, our debt GDP ratio has fallen from about 22% to less than 13%. This does not mean that we are in a position to borrow more, because GDP has improved dramatically.
“However the poor attitude of Nigerians to paying their tax as many enterprises in the country -small and medium scale businesses that should be in the tax bracket – are not in the tax bracket and because many Nigerians who should pay tax are not willing to pay their taxes, the tax revenue GDP ratio is low and it is from revenue that government is able to service the debt or borrows. Therefore, until our tax revenue to GDP ratio improves significantly, government will continue to be conservative in borrowing.
