Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has Constituted a six-man Commission of Enquiry on the Disturbance of Public Peace at Ile – Ife on 8th March, 2017.
The members of the Commission, which has Hon. Justice M. A. Adeigbe as its Chairman, include D. C.P. Bose Dawodu (rtd), Barrister Ismail Ajibade, the State Commissioner of Police, the Director State Security Service and Mr. Bisi Babalola as the Secretary of the Commission.
Among the terms of reference of the Commission of Inquiry are: to Investigate and determine the remote and immediate causes of the mayhem, to recommend appropriate administrative civil or criminal action to be taken against persons found to be involved in the disturbance and to make appropriate recommendations and/or suggestions to the State Government to prevent future occurrence.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, the Governor charged the Commission members to discharge their duties with utmost sense of responsibility that it requires.

The Chairman, Special Committee on Fire Safety Matters, Hon. Oguntola Mudashiru Toogun has charged Proprietors and Managing Directors of Hotels and Hospitality Industries in the State to be conscious of any act that can ignite fire in their establishments and take proactive step against it.
Hon. Toogun gave the charge while on a sensitisation tour to hotels and hospitality industries in Osogbo.
He explained that precaution is not only better than cure but rather safer and cheaper in all ways hence the setting up of the committee.
Hon. Toogun commended the State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for setting a pace for other states to follow, especially by setting up the committee on fire safety matters whose impact at reducing fire outbreak in the State is being felt.
He further explained that the Governor was concerned with the life and property of the citizenry in the State hence the reason for sensitisation across the State.
Hon. Toogun therefore urged the Proprietors and Managing Directors of establishments in the State to enlighten their workers to put off all electrical appliances when they are not in use.

Thousands of Students yesterday commenced learning at the Ataoja Government High School in Osogbo, Wole Soyinka Government High School, Ejigbo, Osogbo Government High School and Adventist Government High School in Ede, each of them with the capacity to accommodate 3,000 students.
The Governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was present at the official opening of the Ata-Oja Government High school in Osogbo , the state capital.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu who was ably represented by Prof. Kamoru Olayiwola Usman commended Aregbesola for improving the atmosphere of learning in schools constructed in the state.

Thousands of Students yesterday commenced learning at the Ataoja Government High School in Osogbo, Wole Soyinka Government High School, Ejigbo, Osogbo Government High School and Adventist Government High School in Ede, each of them with the capacity to accommodate 3,000 students.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Ataoja High School, Osogbo noted that the schools were designed to be able to attract the best brains from their catchment areas, especially draw intake from public schools, where excellence is also the watchword.
Aregbesola noted that his administration has redefined the architecture and environment of quality education, saying that the schools he built would compete with any school from any part of the world.
According to him, “Each school has four principals with three superintending over 1,000 pupils each, and an overall senior principal.
It is standard that each school has 72 classrooms of 49 square-meters, each capable of sitting 49 students.
“It has six offices for study groups. It is also equipped with six laboratories, 48 toilets for pupils and another eight for the teachers, one science library, one Arts library, facility manager’s office, a bookshop and a sickbay.
“Other facilities are the senior principal’s office, three principals’ offices, a bursar’s office, three general staff offices, a record store and security shed/reception. They are all fully furnished. The schools each has its own borehole and power transformer.”
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Prof. Kamoru Olayiwola Usman commended Aregbesola for improving the atmosphere of learning in schools constructed in the state.
The Minister said the federal government and the Federal Ministry of Education are proud of Aregbesola’s efforts in education sector, saying education should not be limited to a situation when a person can only read and write, but how such person can impact positively on the larger society.
He held that Osun in no distant future will enjoy the seed that has been sown by the present administration with the building of the state-of-the-art schools constructed across the state.
According to him, “If we want to forestall what happened in Ife, we must continue to educate our people by making sure that we build more schools with an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.”
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Governor, Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori stated that the motive of Osun Government is to make the new High Schools centre of excellence that will produce students that are excellent in academic performance and will be grounded in the Omoluabi ethos.
She also added that in line with Aregbesola’s desire to have the best teachers in the state High schools, the Governor has approved 20 per cent salary increment, and dressing allowance for all the teachers and principals in the new high schools.
The Deputy Governor further stressed that the new schools principals will also be entitled to official cars, iPads among other things.
According to her, “These intensive interventions in the education sector constitute huge capital expenditure to which Mr. Governor is fully committed come rain or shine, economic recession or depression notwithstanding.
“Mr. Governor considers no amount of money too much to invest in the lives and future of our children in Osun,” she noted.
The Head Girl of the Ataoja Government High School, Eegunranti Victoria, described Aregbesola as “the Awolowo of our time” and a governor who has made the impossible to be possible.”

The Head of Service of the state of Osun, Mr. Sunday Owoeye has admonished the staff of the Public Procurement Agency to take every of their training seriously.
He said this during the opening of a 2-day In-House Induction workshop held for the staff of the Agency.
He said the purpose of creating the agency is to ensure that goods, works and services are procured for the state Government through the application for provisions of the public procurement law 2015 in a manner that is capable of ensuring probity, accountability and transparency in the application of public funds.
Mr. Owoeye said with the public procurement in place, procuring government asset without carrying it along has become a serious contravention of the law which has dire consequences.
He further enjoined all accounting officers of ministries, departments and agencies which are procuring entities to work in synergy with the Procurement Agency having been made the custodian of procurement law and guidelines.
Finally, he appealed to the resource persons at the workshop to accord the programme maximum attention it deserves.
Also speaking at the workshop, the Acting General Manager of the Agency, Mr. S. O. Fadele appreciated the efforts of the State Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Honourable Members of the State House of Assembly and the Head of Service, State of Osun, Mr. Sunday Owoeye towards ensuring the value for money, accountability
and prudent utilization of public funds which formed the basis for the enactment of the Osun procurement Agency in 2016.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Prof. Kamoru Olayiwola Usman at the opening ceremony and commencement of learning in Osun State new high schools, stated that the Federal Ministry of Education is proud with the Governor’s efforts in education.
Thousands of Students officially commenced learning at the Ataoja Government High School in Osogbo; Wole Soyinka Government High School, Ejigbo; Osogbo Government High School; and Adventist Government High School in Ede, with an opening ceremony that happened simultaneously at the four different venues.
The Minister of Education also lauded Osun State for realising that education can only thrive in an environment that is conducive, saying it should not be limited to a situation when a person can only read and write, but how such person can impact positively on the larger society.
Adamu held that Osun State in no distant future will enjoy the seed that is being sown by the present administration with the building of the state of the art schools constructed across the state.
According to him: “I want to commend the governor of Osun for his initiative of taking education seriously.
“Education must not just be seen as just educating a person just to be able to read and write but a person who is built in character and learning.
“If we want to forestall what happened in Ife, we must continue to educate our people by making sure that we build more schools with an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.”
Aregbesola, in his opening address, said his administration has redefined the architecture and environment of quality education.

In Ede, the Principal, Adventist Government High School, Ede, Elder Dahunsi Osundina, also commended Aregbesola over the 20 per cent increment approved for the teachers in all the model schools built across the state.
The School Principal, who doubles as the state President of ANCOPPS, described the Governor’s initiative as a motivational driven force to improve on the teachers’ morale and as well boosting the teaching, learning and students’ performances.
He described Aregbesola’s administration as teachers-friendly, reiterating that the state has not failed in prioritising the welfare of the teachers even in the face of the present economic realities.
According to him: “This step taken by Mr. Governor would not only complement his visionary policy in the education sector but also motivate our teachers in discharging their duties.
“I am very happy with this initiative and kind gesture because this is a right step in the right direction for an improved teaching and learning in all the new schools built by the state.
“It is my belief that the 20 per cent increment would go a long way in motivating our teachers for quality service delivery and improved working condition as this would definitely have a positive impact and reflection in the performance of our pupils and students.”
In Ejigbo, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Oyeyode Oyesosin, thanked Aregbesola for being at the forefront of rewriting the history of education in Osun State through the building of state of the art schools in the state.
The royal father said the new school will go a long way in attracting major development to Ejigbo sooner or later.
Oba Oyeyode said: “Today, we are writing history in Osun through the education sector and I am particularly delighted that Aregbesola is at the forefront of the history being written.
“Many people may not understand this today, but I tell you that Aregbesola has given us a major tool of development in Ejigbo through this school.
“This great school will attract great minds to Ejigbo and the products of this school will surely be great men and women of the future who will attract development to Osun.”
At the Osogbo Government High School, the Deputy Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Akintunde Adegboye, who stood in for the Governor, commended the stakeholders in the education sector for their cooperation and commitment to the success of the story.
Adegboye stated that the government of Aregbesola is committed to the future of the students and the state which was why the reclassification of the schools are sweeping.
He urged the students, teachers and the parents and other stakeholders in the education sector to support this renewed effort to push the education of the state to the highest pedestal.
He said: “The school is fantastic.
“So are the teaching aids such as well-equipped library laboratories and computer center.
“The students will be very happy to learn and our teachers are good academically and very friendly towards the students.
“I consider this a very rare privilege and advise other students to work hard so that they can come and enjoy the learning facilities here.”
Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola yesterday said more than 70 percent of the country’s oil resources were being appropriated by less than one percent of the population thereby leaving a larger number of the populace living below poverty line.
He made the remark in Osogbo when the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) Standing Committee members visited him for inspection of some development projects in parts of the state
Aregbesola lamented that the huge resources in the hands of the few were not rightly channelled to the development of the nation.
He averred that if people still do not cultivate the habit of working and adding values to the economic activities, we will continue to remain poor.In his words: “If we have ever paused to ask why we are how we are in this nation, we will discover that lack of productivity is at the root of our economic problems. The large chunk of the nation’s wealth is in the hands of few while majority wallow in abject poverty and these resources are not being used for development.
“Sadly, honest work does not pay in Nigeria today as those who work very well are the poorest. Our inability to develop values out of nature brought us to this abysmal level of poverty”.
In her response, President of the NGE, Mrs. Funke Egbemode described Aregbesola as a visionary leader who has not only opened the state of Osun to the entire world but has also set it on the right pedestal of development.
Some of the projects visited by the NGE team included the 18 kilometre Oba Adesoji Aderemi East By-Pass and 3,000 students’ capacity Ata-Oja Government High School.
Osogbo Government High School, Nelson Mandela Freedom Park and Atewogbeja Fountain and the rehabilitated Nigeria Railway Terminus and Park.Egbemode attributed the development and progress of the state to the atmosphere of peace and security prevalent in the state.
Governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of Osun is to inaugurate some water supply projects to mark the 2017 World Water Day.
A statement by Mr Muftau Oluwadare, Permanent Secretary, Osun Ministry of Water Resources, Rural and Community Affairs, said some of the projects were located in Erinmo-Ijesa, Oriade South Local Council Development Area and Ajebandele, Ife Central Local Government Area.
It said that some projects would also be inaugurated in Asapati, Ololola and Olajebe communities, all in Odo-Otin Local Government Area.
The statement urged the beneficiary communities to reciprocate the good gesture of the government by making judicious use of the water supply facilities.
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has described Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as a “visionary governor” who has opened Osun to the world.
Leading the NGE Standing Committee members to inspect projects across the state at the weekend, NGE President Mrs. Funke Egbemode attributed the state’s development to peace and security.
Some of the projects inspected include the 18 kilometre Oba Adesoji Aderemi East By-Pass; Ataoja Government High School, Osogbo; Government High School; Nelson Mandela Freedom Park and Atewogbeja Fountain, Nigeria Railway Terminus and park.
Egbemode, who is the managing director of New Telegraph, said however ambitious any governor is, he can only achieve little without peace and security.
She said there had been an improvement in terms of infrastructure in the state since the present administration came on board.
The NGE president added that every part of Osun, especially Osogbo, the state capital, was cleaner, developed and beautiful.
Mrs Egbemode, who observed that the state has moved forward under Aregbesola, noted that she is always impressed by any government working to leave a state better than it met it.
The NGE president praised the governor for attracting businesses and investors through masses-friendly programmes.
According to her, “by and large, your government has done well for the people and we urge you to do more.”
Responding, Aregbesola linked the nation’s economic problem to lack of productivity.
He lamented that the resources in the hands of a few were not channelled for the nation’s development.
The governor cautioned journalists to be conscious of their writings and reports.
The Guild condemned the continuous xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.
It said the Federal Government should be more responsive in protecting its citizens in foreign countries.
“The Federal Government, should as a matter of national interest apply the country’s foreign policy of reciprocity that affects mutual relations between Nigeria and other countries.”
