Osun-Assembly-330×242

The State of Osun House of Assembly has said that it would give priority to its oversight function by strengthening its monitoring mechanisms in 2016.?

Osun-Assembly-330x242

It said this paradigm shift was necessary to ensure that the state government increases its internally generated revenue and judiciously use the same for the completion of all ongoing projects and execution of new ones.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Honourable Olatunbosun Oyintiloye dropped the hint during an interview with journalists.
According to him, the resolution of the Assembly was borne out of the fact that what the state needs at this critical period of the economic downturn was to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, especially for the completion of ongoing projects and pending programmes in line with the policy of the state government.

”The situation in Osun in this critical period requires that all stakeholders play their role through the blockage of waste and the improvement of internally generated revenue.
”If you look at the 2016 budget before the house, it is essentially revenue-driven and the Speaker, Honorable Najeem Salaam has stresses it on Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to develop ways to generate more revenue without imposing an unnecessary burden on the people”

”Also, there are many projects that are still being delayed due to the financial crunch and the house is optimistic that after the completion of these projects there would be a positive impact on the economy and life of the people.
”To achieve all these, Mr Speaker has decentralised the monitoring mechanism by mandating all the standing committees of the house to beam their searchlights on every activity of relevant MDAs”, he said.
Oyintiloye also said the Assembly would from time to time ensure effective review, monitoring, and supervision of government programmes, activities, and policy implementation.
In the process of this monitoring, he said, any policy of any MDA that would not be in tandem with the present economic reality would be reviewed by the house.?
He, however, stressed that legislative business of the house would not be compromised and expressed the hope that these measures would go a long way to better the lots of the people.
The lawmaker then urged the people of the state to support the government by paying their dues to enable the government to perform its obligations.

…Says State has identified 60 million active cocoa trees

Revenues from Cocoa and other prominent farms produce in which Osun has comparative advantages have great capacities to turn around the economy and fortunes of the state if pursued with renewed vigor.

The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who stated this assured that his administration will leave no stone unturned to make the state great again, hence the recent investment and research into Cocoa production and the focus on other areas of agriculture. The governor stated that for the state to start on a good footing at producing ‘Cocoa Omoluabi’, the state has enumerated and identified sixty million active cocoa trees in the state.
Aregbesola, while meeting with Cocoa Produce Merchants in the state at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, stated that with new cocoa development initiatives in the state, there will be a new cash inflow  making the economy of the state prosperous.

He stated that the state has also gone further in her bid to boost cocoa production and Agriculture with the signing of Memorandum of under standing with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on the development of agriculture and production of massive food production as alternative to reliance on oil sector.
The agreement according to Aregbesola involved releasing of 204.39 hectares of land in Ago Owu Farm Settlement to IITA for the purposes of conducting research and setting up demonstration farms for best farming practices.
IITA will also carry out cassava, plantain and other crops multiplication including Cocoa as well as train the youths in the state in modern, commercial and profitable farming.

Aregbesola emphasised that the state in her bid to increase Internally Generated Revenue in Osun, government will establish commodity board that will be supervised directly by the office of the governor to ensure that Osun ranks among the best cocoa producers in Nigeria within the next two years.
He told the produce merchants that the economic situation of the state has been badly affected with the pillaging of the national treasury by the previous administration.
Aregbesola added that the situation with the drop in oil prices and the sharp reduction in the Federation Accounts from N1.2 trillion in 2012 to N369 billion in November allocations shared in December 2015 has reduced the running of government to little or nothing hence the need to look inward in increasing IGR.
The governor noted that the state will soon bounce back‎ with the identification of sixty million Cocoa trees presently in the state, adding that government henceforth will criminalise any action of farmers and merchants that runs afoul of government laws on cocoa.
He pointed out that government will soon be registering all farmers in the state for easy implementation of government policies on agriculture thus giving adequate room for monitoring and giving the necessary support for farmers.
According to him, “to show the people of the state that we are ready to face agriculture squarely in Osun, I am establishing a commodity board that will be supervised directly from the office of the governor.
“Our bags of cocoa in Osun will be branded with this; government will be able to ensure that the quality of cocoa coming out of the state meets international quality. When there was free money coming from oil, no government was looking at what cocoa could bring to the economy; we are back to the days where cocoa will be the main stay of our economy in Osun”. The governor emphasised.
Aregbesola hinted that Produce tribunals will be set up across the state and that special colour will be given to vehicles that will be transporting cocoa within the state.
The governor added that the State Executive Council meetings will be held in rural areas where cocoa farming is thriving in the state for about six months to one year after the formation of his cabinet.
Earlier, the Chairman of All farmers Association of Osun, Chief Raheem Adeniji stated that the association is ready to partner and cooperate with government in her bid to revamp the cocoa farming in the state.
He lamented the poor economic state the country has found it with the neglect of cocoa which he said was the back bone of the economy in the 60s, identifying the cancellation of Cocoa and marketing Board by the then military government as a setback for the industry in Nigeria.
Adeniji commended government for introducing E-payment, adding that government should ensure and maintain that Osun cocoa should not go out of the state.

… Advocate for Maximized Tax Revenues
The traditional rulers in Osun have cleared the air on the lingering allegation of financial mismanagement, administrative ineptitude and recklessness leveled against the current administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola by the members of the opposition.
Aregbesolat
The royal fathers gave the vindication in their separate remarks while playing a host on the delegation of Osun State Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, led by the state Chairman, Comrade Amitolu Shittu.
In his address, the Timi of Edeland, Oba Muniru Adesola Lawal while receiving the state leadership of PCRC, expressed disappointment in what he described as unfounded, baseless and frivolous the allegation of financial recklessness purportedly credited to the members of the opposition parties against Governor Aregbesola of Osun, affirming that the current economic hardship was not in anyway the fault of Governor Aregbesola.
The royal father who attributed the present economic complications to what he described as the effects of negligence of the past administrations in the country, saying Nigeria wouldn’t have been in this economic mess if the past governments had diversified the nation’s God-given abundant resources.
The traditional ruler who commended Governor Aregbesola for repositioning the state to the path of greatness among its peers in spite the challenges posed by the present economic situation, said Governor Aregbesola has proven his weights as a true leader whose passion for development of his state can never be distorted.
Identifying some of the successes recorded by the present administration, Oba Lawal said the government of Governor Aregbesola has prudently managed the resources of the state for the general well being of the citizenry, adding that his laudable achievements can never be over-emphasized.
The royal father further explained that the present administration has demonstrated high sense of commitment towards the plights of the masses, affirming that the current administration had also maximized the little resources of the state for the betterment of all.
Oba Lawal lamented over the state of the nation’s economy especially its effects on the life of the states of the federation, reiterating that had it been the past administration had looked beyond the oil boom, Nigeria would have been the best among its peers in the world.
The traditional ruler expressed optimistic in the agricultural potentials which according to him has the capacity to take the nation to the greatest heights of economic prosperity.
Oba Lawal who recounted back to early 50s when the economic main stay of Nigeria was purely on agriculture and solid mineral, adding that in spite this non-oil sector, the entire country was successfully governed.
The royal father commended the Late Obafemi Awolowo for his genuine foresight and undaunting selfless efforts  which according to him brought Nigeria and Africa to the frontline of socio-political and economic liberation in the world.
Oba Lawal said the downward trend in the global prices of crude oil was a signal to the fact that the time has come where a nation could only succeed through productivity, industrialization and commercialization.
“I want to say emphatically that the current economic hardship is not the fault of Governor Aregbesola because we all know that the prices of crude oil has dropped sharply in the international market and this downturn has culminated to the present situation.
“The current government in the state has been doing its best in all areas of the economy especially on security as we all know that our state is one of the peaceful states in Nigeria.
“People should stop blaming or pointing faulty fingers at Mr. Governor for this because to me it is not his fault. What we need to do now is to extend our support and collaboration to the Governor as obedient citizens and as well perform our civic duties to government with regular tax payment”, Oba Lawal stated.
The traditional ruler who described tax as grease that lubricates the wheel of progress, canvassing support for the current government in Nigeria especially Osun state.
He therefore urged the current government to also look inward and go back to the economic drawing board so as to facilitate the desired socio-economic prosperity and political sustainability in the country.
Also in their separate remarks, the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi and Alayegun of Ode-Omu, Oba Lamidi Oke, eulogized Governor Aregbesola for prioritizing security and education in the state, saying his efforts on the sectors had impacted meaningfully in the lives of the people.
The duo maintained that the procurement of security facilities by the current government had reduced drastically the rate of crime in the state.
The royal fathers further stated that the provision of security vehicles by the state government has helped to reawaken the security consciousness of the people in their towns, adding that the noble initiatives has equally gone a long way towards the protection of lives and property of their subjects.
They said the current government has supported the state with adequate security apparatus and necessary equipment which according to them had rescued the state from all forms of crimes.
The traditional rulers stated that the kind gesture of Mr. Governor on security most importantly the provision of Armour Personnel Carriers, APC, to all the security agencies across the Local Governments in the state has really helped to stem the tide of insecurity in their various communities.
The duo further remarked that the drastic security measures taken by the present administration has positioned the state to be one of the peaceful states in Nigeria, saying for that initiatives, the present administration ought to be commended.
The royal fathers however condemned the allegation of financial mismanagement leveled against the State Governor by a section of the public, saying instead of pointing fingers of blames on Mr. Governor or anyone whatsoever, there is a need for the people to study the circumstances around the nation’s economy which according to them culminated to the present situation.
They therefore advised the people to remain hopeful and prayerful for quick economic recovery of the state and Nigeria at large.
Meanwhile, the monarchs who early commended the leadership and members of the State Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC for their prompt security intervention in the state, said their productive and proactive contributions towards the actualization of a secured state had yielded meaningful results in years past.

He however counseled Aregbesola to forge ahead in his developmental projects which had transformed the state in the last few years of his administration. Oyebamiji specifically lauded the massive road construction projects of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, Oyebamiji noted that the bane of location of industry in Osun State by investors has been lack of good road networks adding that with the measures taken by Aregbesola, investors will be encouraged to invest in the state.
The managing director also identified large scale cultivation of cocoa and palm trees as long term panacea to the dwindling economic fortune of the state, saying that the state has what it takes to revive its economy if cocoa and oil palm cultivation is embraced.
According to him, Osun Investment Company has cultivated no fewer than 1,500 hectares of cocoa with 623 hectare in Ibokun and 523 hectare in Iwo.
While charging the people in the South West to embrace cocoa and oil palm cultivation, Oyebamiji noted that apart from the comparative advantage it has over other crops, mix cropping with it would help sustain the farmers.
Alhaji Oyebamiji maintained that until Nigerians are able to produce substantial part of what they consume, the economy will continue to dwindle blaming the present economic downturn on over dependence on oil.
To further boost the economy of the state, the managing director disclosed that the company is planning to establish a petroleum refinery to be located at Dagbolu in Olorunda local government area of the state.
He further disclosed that the investment company has estates spread all over the country including 34 three bedroom apartments in Lagos, 14 flats in Abuja and another 19 flats in Ikoyi, Lagos.

FAYOSE VISIT OGBENI (2) (1)

The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday advised the Governor of  Ekiti, Dr. Ayodele Fayose to face the reality of the death of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party.
????????????????????????????????????
Aregbesola said while he is not asking the governor to abandon the opposition PDP against his wish, he would only advise him to join hands with a political party that will give hope to the people of Nigeria.
He also charged the Ekiti State governor to direct his energy towards bringing human and physical development to western region and Nigeria as a whole.
The Governor stated this when his Ekiti counterpart paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Osogbo.
Governor Fayose, during the visit, had said that he is in Osun not for any political reason and that he is not ready to abandon the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) but for his belief in the Yoruba race and her development and unity.
Aregbesola described the visit of Governor Fayose to Osun as demonstration of maturity, saying it takes a very matured human being to know that at the end of every public office, he will be left with humanity.
He said, “Osoko has said that he is not going to leave his party, but the reality today is that PDP has served its term in Nigeria. When a horse is dead, it is either you abandon it or you bury it.
“I want my good friend and brother to know that PDP has exhausted it’s stay in Nigeria, it can no longer be revived, let us look at a political party that will give hope to our people. Opposition must be for a purpose, I stand by you on the unity of Yoruba land and that our leaders not put down in the country.
“The war is over, we are in a season of mobilising our people to agriculture and produce such that we will economically have the strength to give leadership to the Nation and Africa. Our energy must be directed at bringing human and physical development, we have enough in this region to give leadership”. Aregbesola stressed.
He assured Fayose that he will stand by him in his effort to galvanise the people of South-west for accelerated development.
The Governor who lamented the present economic situation of the country noted that there is an invasion on the economy of Nigeria to the extent that the country is loosing 75 percent of her income due to oil glut.
“The country is facing a very serious crises with the rate at which the crude oil price is falling. There is an invasion on the economy to the level that we are loosing 75 percent of our income which is not good.
“At this point, wise people must have an alternative to oil which part of it is your visit. We must use our culture and affinity to form a bond that can make our people live a normal life, it is a duty that we owe our people, States and Nigeria as a whole”.
Speaking earlier, Governor Fayose stated that against all speculations that he was coming to Osogbo to ask Aregbesola help him beg President Muhammadu Buhari, he was  in Osun for the unity of Yoruba race.
He added that the Yoruba race is greater than any political office hence his belief in the development of the race.
The governor averred that the visit of the Ooni of Ife to the 45th coronation of the Alaafin of Oyo is instructive hence the need for every Yoruba sons and daughters to see to the unity and progress of the race.
He said, “This is my first official visit to any APC state in Nigeria. I am not in Osogbo to ask Aregbesola to help me beg as being speculated in some quarters. We are all Yoruba, politics is like water, it can flow anywhere.
“I believe in the Yoruba race, the race comes first before the office of the governor. The race is eternal while that of governor is momentary. We must watch today to be guided by tomorrow. I am here for the unity of Yoruba as it affect the Oodua, the progenitor” Fayose emphasised.
