The Governor of the State of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, has said he joined politics because of his desire to serve.

The governor stated this at the palace of Timi of Ede, Munirudeen Lawal, during a political campaign to Ede Federal Constituency on Tuesday. The Ede monarch also endorsed Mr. Aregbesola’s second-term bid saying “the people of this state will make sure you come back to continue the developmental stride.”

Mr. Aregbesola, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said while others have no ideas of what to do with power, he thinks about policies and programmes that would positively turn the fortunes of the people.

He said that a holistic analysis of his administration’s programme would reveal that his government has treated the people and various political districts in the state equally.

He said the Ede Constituency supported his governorship ambition in 2007 by voting en mass.

According to the governor, the Cocoa Industries in Ede would soon be rejuvenated as a government delegation had gone to China for the purpose of purchasing new machines for the industry.

“Our administration has treated the various political districts equally, without favour of sentiment,” Mr. Aregbesola said.

“Ede has been supportive of our ambition and government. Without the votes of Ede North and Ede South Local Government Areas, I would not be governor. Without these two local governments we would not have the two members of House of Representatives and one member of House of Assembly.

“Don’t let the opposition tell you lies because that is their stock in trade. Ask them to tell you the programmes they have for the people. But we know they have none. What we have done in this state in less than forty months surpass what they did in seven years both in quantity and quality.

“As we speak, the Chairman of Ede Cocoa Industries is in China on how to get brand new cocoa processing machines. I assure you that this is just the beginning of good things in Osun.”

The governor listed some of the achievements of his government in the federal constituency to include: rehabilitation of 21.3km Ede township roads; construction of 7.3km local government roads in Ejigbo LG; construction of 7.7km local government roads in Ede South LG; construction of 10km local government roads in Ede North LG; construction of 8.5km local government roads in Egbedore LG; and rehabilitation of 8.9km Abere-Ojoro-Yidi Road.

Others are total overlay of Royal Hotel Road, Ejigbo; completion of a Government High School in Ejigbo; AUD Government Middle School, Ejigbo; Seventh Day Adventist Government High School, Ede; L.A Government Middle School, Agbongbe, Ede; L.A Government Elementary School, Obada, Ede; a total of 1, 941 tablets distributed in the Federal Constituency; 561 tablets distributed in Ede South LG; 324 tablets distributed in Egbedore LG; 669 tablets distributed in Ejigbo LG; and 393 tablets distributed in Ede North.

Mr. Lawal, while giving his royal blessings, commended Mr. Aregbesola for the massive work going on in the state.

The monarch stated that the governor, having given a good account of his administration in the first term, deserved to be re-elected to continue the work.

“You have performed very well in your first term. The people of this state will make sure you come back to continue the developmental stride,” he said.

“With the people supporting you, your second term is definitely assured.”

olunloyoA former governor of the old Oyo state, Dr Omololu Olunloyo has described the Governor of Osun state Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as a visionary leader worthy of emulation by all particularly the political office holders.

Dr Olunloyo stated this at the palace of Timi of Ede land, when the Aregbesola campaign train paid a homage to the traditional ruler.

He described as excellent the Opon Imo project, saying it is capable of revitalising the education standard.

The former governor who noted that he could not believe his eyes at the sight of the level of transformation on his way to the state, said the governor has indeed made a name for himself as the peoples governor.

Olunloyo thereafter enjoined the people of the state not to sell their votes in the forthcoming governorship election.

“Aregbesola is always willing to work for the development of his people especially the yoruba race because he has taken tutelage from Bola Tinubu for eight years.”

“I so much admire the “Opon Imo” project of Aregbesola because after studying the device I know that it can go a long way in revitalising education in the state.”

Citing an example, the governor mentioned free feeding of primary school pupils, saying “it is one of our programmes that do not discriminate, whether you are Muslim, Christian, pagan, APC, PDP and SDP to mention but just a few.” He reminded that his administration had a periodic programme tagged “walk for life,” saying, it was one of the avenue for a servant to test his acceptability and popularity amongst the people. He added that the way they trooped out to be with their elected governor was an indication that they still loved him and would continue to love him. AREGBESOLA

AREGBESOLAOsun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described the alleged refusal of the Federal Government to release a short security call code to the state as dangerous and unfortunate.

Aregbesola told journalists in Oshogbo at the weekend that the state had constructed an Emergency Security Centre, where calls could be directed for assistance and rescue operations in case of any emergency, saying what remained for the centre to function was a short security code approval from the Federal Government.

The governor, who said his efforts to obtain the code were futile, suspected that the Federal Government was not well disposed to the release of the vital code.

He stated that a letter to that effect was first forwarded to the Presidency and when there was no acknowledgement, he wrote a reminder which, he said, was also ignored.

The governor disclosed that with the code, a helicopter could touch down anywhere in the state within 15 minutes to identify crisis spots with a view to mobilising security personnel to the spot.

Warning against politicising every issue, Aregbesola asserted that, “security threat does not discriminate,” adding that once anybody won an election, such person automatically became the leader of the electorate.

He pointed out that if the security centre had been functional, the young journalists who died recently along Ife Road could have survived the accident if help had reached them in time.

The governor, therefore, urged well-meaning Nigerians to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to use his good offices to effect the issuance of the code.

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has challenged his archival in the August 9 governorship election in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to an open debate.

Aregbesola, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said none of the governorship candidates in the state could match him.

The governor, who spoke at the commissioning of Aiyegbaju International Market, Osogbo, said he possesed an intimidating credential, which none of his opponents could beat.

Besides, the governor challenged the governorship candidates of Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and Segun Akinwusi respectively, to make their manifestoes open to the masses.

Aregbesola said the PDP had no basis to campaign, insisting that the party abused its opportunity when it was in power for seven and a half years.

He said the PDP governorship candidate would fail as his party did not execute any meaningful project while in control of the state’s resources.

The APC flagbearer said none of the projects embarked upon by the PDP administration could stand the test of time.

His words: “Let us meet at an open debate and they will be disgraced out. Give us just one hour and see who among us will have the day.”

Aregbesola assured that he would turn Osogbo to the centre of commerce and industry in the South-West, saying the town was gradually assuming the real status of a state capital.
