About Osun Tourism Board
Osun Tourism Board came into existence as an autonomous and self-accounting agency of Government on 23rd October, 2003. Its establishment was sequel to Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) Degree No. 81 of 14th December, 1992, which among other things mandated the various State Government in the federation to set up the State Tourism Board.
The Board is saddled with the responsibility of generating revenue from Hotel registration/renewal and other tourism enterprises. It is also responsible for the grading, classification and registration of hotels and other tourism enterprises with a view to generating revenue into government coffers. Another major role of the Board is to identify, maintain, promote and market state tourism potentials to other parts of the world.
Objectives Of the Board
The Objectives of the Agency are
- to pursue tourism development vigorously;
- to maintain and develop all tourism infrastructure in the State;
- to encourage public private participation in the promotion of tourism in Osun State;
- to provide recreational and leisure facilities for domestic and international mass tourism at various sites such as Amusement Parks, Grooves, Shrines and Historical locations in the State;
- to register all Hotels, Restaurants, Night Clubs, Bars, “Bukatarias”, Canteens, Cinema houses and other Hospitality Enterprises in the State as well as classify, grade and standardize them in collaboration with other relevant Agency of the State Government;
- to revive historical and religious sites;
- to set up ethnographic museums for educational and cultural tourism;
- to make direct marketing of tourism potentials by establishing Osun Tourism Desks at key market hubs like Shopping Malls, Educational Institutions, Retreat Centers, Clubs, Hotels, Embassies etc. as well as to make marketing leaflets and brochure on identified tourist sites being planned for upgrading;
- to organize tours with Schools, local tour Organizers and Embassies in Nigeria by packaging tour activities on Osun nature-friendly tourist sites;
- to encourage internet marketing on both the State and Osun Tourism Board web-sites;
- to up-date data analysis on Hotels and other tourism potentials in the State for tourists and publication matters;
- to carry out further research into customers’ (Tourists) preferences
Functions And Responsibilities
Engage in promotion of domestic and international tourism
Promote cultural tourism, eco-tourism and nature tourism
Liaison with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to collect, evaluate and publish for domestic and international use information relating to
Marketing/promotion of tourism potential;Trends in tourist activities, expectations and needs; andCompeting tourism markets.
Conduct and publish market research into local and international tourism products for decision making;
Provide information for various users on
hotel booking, tourism destinations and potentials in the State of Osun; andproject, promote and propagate tourist attractions and tourism-related services available to tourists/quests locally, nationally and internationally.
Negotiate and enter into agreements relating to tourism marketing and promotion or any other matter to enhance tourist traffic within and outside the Osun State
Increase the volume of, and receipts from tourist flow
Establish visitor and information centres with and outside the state
Collaboration with relevant regulatory agencies and bodies responsible for arts, heritage and cultural activities and events, encourage the development and preservation of the Osun State arts and cultural values
The Board shall liaise with relevant tourism stakeholders in promotion and marketing of the tourism industry and may, for such purposes, have joint programmes, plans, strategies and policies
