OTUNBA BABATOLA FASERU

COMMISSIONER FOR AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY

 Otunba Babatola Faseru who hails from ljebu in Oriade Local Government was born on the 28th of October, 1967. A loving husband and father, Otunba Faseru attended Government College Ibadan between 1977 and 1982 for his West African School Certificate after which he

 Otunba Babatola Faseru who hails from ljebu in Oriade Local Government was born on the 28th of October, 1967. A loving husband and father, Otunba Faseru attended Government College Ibadan between 1977 and 1982 for his West African School Certificate after which he proceeded to the University of Ilorin where he obtained his B.Sc (Hons.) in Business Administration between 1983 and 1987.

Otunba Faseru then went to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife where he bagged his MBA with Specialization in Finance & Marketing between 1988 and 1990.

Faseru who is a fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration is the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Colossus Investment Ltd. He was also at a time, the Chairman, Lead Merchant Bank between 1990 and 1998 just as he was also at First Bank of Nigeria in 1989 as an industrial Attache and International Breweries Plc as a field attaché in 1986.

He is the President, Board of Directors, African Cashew Alliance since 2020 and also the Vice President, African Cashew Alliance, a position he held between the year 2015 and 2020.

The brilliant Otunba Faseru was the President, National Cashew Association of Nigeria between 2011 and 2020 and Vice/President, National Cashew Association of Nigeria between year 2003 and 2011. He also held sway as the Chairman, Membership Committee of the Nigeria Ukrainian Business Council 2007.

Among others, Otuba Babatola Faseru proudly made a lot of personal achievements which include: Growing the Colossus Investments Limited into one of the top Nigeria 50 non -oil export companies by implementing strategic business development initiatives, expanding product lines and strengthening exports network.

In 2013, as National President, National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN), for the first time, cashew was nominated as a transformational crop under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) of the Federal Government

Otunba Faseru in 2015 ensured that cashew was selected as one of the thirteen (13) strategic products aimed at diversifying the Nigerian economy away from oil.

Under his tenure in 2012, National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) was awarded ‘the most Active Association of the year. He led the first Nigerian Cashew business delegation to the Vietnam cashew conference in November 2012.

He was the one that opened the Vietnamese market to the Nigerian cashew exporters by signing an MOU with the Vietnamese counterpart for export of 80,000 metric tons of Nigerian raw cashew valued at US$60 million while also improving the quality of Nigerian cashew nuts to the delight of the global market. He led the efforts in increasing cashew production figures from 100,000 metric tons in 2011 to 250,000 metric tons in 2020 through extensive sensitization and strategic partnerships and significantly increased foreign exchange earnings from cashew exports from US$50 million to US$250 million by negotiating favorable deals and rebranding the Nigerian cashew among others.

The highly religious Otunba Babatola Faseru is the Baba Egbe Aya Bishop, St. Mathew’s Anglican Cathedral, (jebu jesa, the Otunba Bobagbimo of Erinmo ljesa Land and a Pastor at Christ Embassy, Loveworld Incorporated.

On the social front, Otunba Faseru who loves playing Lawn Tennis and swimming is a member of several clubs which include: Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos State Public Service Club and the ljesa Society.

He has won several awards which includes: the Salvage African Advocate Initiative: the unwavering commitment Africa Award, July 2022, Award of Business leadership which he got in 2022, the National Cashew Association of Nigeria Award, Benin Cashew Award: Contribution to the development of Cashew Nut Industry in Africa which he clinched in February 2021 among others.

He is presently the Osun State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security.
